W.A.S.P.
This Los Angeles band embodies all the decadence, inter-band instability, and parent-baiting hi-jinx of the 1980s hair metal scene. Formed in '82, W.A.S.P.--featuring the irrepressible vocalist Blackie Lawless--immediately courted controversy with their first single, "Animal (F*ck like a Beast)" and their sex-obsessed lyrics and stage show. Countless line-up changes over the course of 20 years (including the regular comings-and-goings of Chris Holmes, the excellent guitar-shredder immortalized in the "swimming pool" scene in the documentary THE DECLINE OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION II) did little to slow down the band, although by the '90s they'd become more like cult favorites than reliable hit-makers. As of the mid 00's, the band was still releasing records and touring the world.
