Status Quo
Alhough their impact in the U.S. is limited to "Pictures of Matchstick Men" and Camper Van Beethoven's popular cover version, the rock band Status Quo are practically a national institution in the U.K., and have had a five-decade career as one of England's most successful and beloved acts. Starting in the late 1960s as a psychedelic outfit, they have weathered countless changes in the British pop landscape, always maintaining a discreet distance from musical trends like disco, punk, and '80s new wave. The no-nonsense boogie-rock sound the band adopted in the mid-'70s has served them well and proved surprisingly timeless.
