Link Wray
North Carolinan guitarist Link Wray began his recording career in the 1950s as a country musician, but was written into the annals of history in 1958 via his groundbreaking single "Rumble." An electric guitar instrumental featuring Wray's distorted tone and aggressive style, it paved the way for everything from surf to heavy metal. Wray staged various comebacks in the ensuing decades, including a partnership with neo-rockabilly singer Robert Gordon, but "Rumble" remains his most iconic moment. He passed away in November of 2005.
