Diana Ross
The most successful female vocal group of the '60s, The Supremes were one of the quintessential Motown acts, scoring countless memorable hits that helped to define that label's distinctive R&B/pop hybrid. Diana Ross was the group's leader, but the Supremes still managed to chart several times after her departure in 1969. Ross became a solo superstar in the '70s, delving into pop, disco, and soul with great success. She also became an actress, and was nominated for an Oscar for her 1972 portrayal of Billie Holiday in LADY SINGS THE BLUES.
