David Byrne
After the Talking Heads broke up at the end of the '80s, David Byrne went even deeper into the exploration of world music that he'd begun on 1979's FEAR OF MUSIC. He incorporated strong elements of Latin, Cuban, and African music into his solo ventures, but of equal importance was his establishment of the Luaka Bop label, which proved to be one of the most important outlets in the US for world music. Through both collaborations and A&R work, Byrne was responsible for bringing multi-cultural music to the masses, especially with his highly influential BRAZIL CLASSICS compilation series.
