The title of Cassidy's eagerly anticipated third album, B.A.R.S., stands for the BARRY ADRIAN REESE STORY (the Philadelphia rapper's real name) and alludes to his former incarceration on manslaughter charges. While the once-troubled Cassidy reunites with renowned producer Swizz Beatz on some tracks, most notably on the Vocoder-laced club anthem "My Drink N' My 2 Step," he also gets some top-notch help from Kanye West, John Legend, and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, among others, resulting in a lively, star-studded hip-hop album that never lets its guest shots overshadow the Philly performer's formidable flow.

Eve

A Philadelphia native, Eve met Ruff Ryders camp head DMX while in Los Angeles. Impressed with her ability to rhyme, DMX invited Eve to join the Ruff Ryders crew for guest appearances on their debut album. Her photogenic looks and sassy rhyme style earned her instant popularity, which was parlayed into Eve's 1999 debut album. Maturing into a media icon, the stylish, platinum-tressed Eve has since signed a modeling deal, appeared in several fashion shoots, appeared in numerous films, and gone on to be a reigning queen of hip-hop.

John Legend

Though it appears that he emerged fully-formed in 2004 from the mind of Kanye West, John Legend got his start on the East Coast in the mid 1990s as John Stephens, a promising neo-soul piano-player and songwriter. After he garnered the attention of Lauryn Hill--on whose 1998 classic Legend played--many high-profile studio gigs followed, including a pivotal one co-writing and playing on Kanye West's smash debut. West, impressed with Stephens's abilities, signed him (as "John Legend") to his production company and co-produced his debut album, GET LIFTED, a soul-hip-hop hybrid that wowed critics and listeners alike. Thus rechristened, a Legend was born.

Angie Stone

It was Angie Stone's vocal talent that shot Vertical Hold's urban dance hit, "Seems You're Much Too Busy," to the upper reaches of the charts in 1993. But it wasn't until 1999 that Stone got around to issuing her first solo album, BLACK DIAMOND, which mixed elements of classic soul and funk to her already rich, smooth sound and followed Macy Gray's debut into the roots-R&B upper echelon. Stone continued to mature through a spate of acclaimed albums in the aughts.
