This live album, recorded in 1991, finds famed protest singer Tom Paxton still going strong nearly 30 years after his Greenwich Village heyday. Paxton's sociopolitical wit is as topical and incisive as ever on this set, as shown by tunes like "I Am Changing My Name to Chrysler" and "Yuppies in the Sky." But while Paxton is sometimes pegged as a comic songwriter, he is equally adept at plaintive, wistful songs in the traditional folk style, and there are several fine examples here. Paxton's best-known song, "The Last Thing On My Mind" (which has been recorded by everyone from Neil Diamond to Willie Nelson), is featured as well.

Tom Paxton
One of the best--and most underrated--singer/songwriters to come out of the 1960s folk boom, Tom Paxton wrote love songs and topical satires with equal fluency. A contemporary of Bob Dylan and Phil Ochs, he helped create the template for protest songs. Eventually, like most of his contemporaries, he drifted into electrified folk-rock. Later, Paxton carved out a second career as a children's songwriter and author, but that shouldn't diminish his reputation among adults; over the years his songs have been covered by everyone from the Move to Nanci Griffith, Dolly Parton, and Gram Parsons.
