From the Heart of Town

Sophomore slumps should always be done away with this handily. Gallon Drunk stomp out any notions of a second-album lull on FROM THE HEART OF TOWN--the aural equivalent of a PCP party in a convertible careening down Route 66. James Johnston does his best Nick Cave impersonation over white-knuckled rhythms and pulse-quickening noise-guitar bursts disguised as songs. Leave it to the British to outdo Jon Spencer and Neil Hagerty in finding the sleazy core in American music. This reissue features eight previously unreleased tracks, including four live rave-ups and a doom-and-gloom version of Merle Haggard's "Silver Wings."
