WINDOWS OF HEAVEN proves that Jefferson Starship was still relevant in the '90s. Preaching such '60s ethics as freedom, peace, and mind expansion, the band shows that looking towards a better future will never go out of style. The core of the Airplane/Starship lineup remains intact, with Marty Balin, Jack Casady, and Paul Kantner as viable a musical force as ever.
"See The Light" features the wonderful singing talents of Balin. WINDOWS' title track is an intense six-minute number featuring Kantner and Diana Mangano, a powerful vocalist reminiscent of Grace Slick. Slick herself lends her legendary pipes to "I'm On Fire," a political track suited for rock radio. The mellow "Goddess" recalls the band's RED OCTOPUS era. "Millenium Beyond," the album's epic closer, proclaims love as the answer to a better life for all. Classic rock fans can rejoice. WINDOWS is a tight, well-produced piece in the Jefferson Starship puzzle.
