After a series of synthesizer-oriented albums, the British post-punk/industrial act Killing Joke returned to aggressive, guitar-heavy form with 1990's EXTREMITIES, DIRT & VARIOUS REPRESSED EMOTIONS. Bolstered by the powerful drumming of Martin Atkins (Public Image Ltd., Ministry), the trio of vocalist/keyboardist Jaz Coleman, guitarist Geordie Walker, and bassist Paul Raven get back to the main business of issuing fierce manifestos, as heard on the expansive "Money Is Not Our God" and the searing "Age of Greed." Despite the considerable momentum generated by EXTREMITIES, Killing Joke subsequently went on hiatus (with Coleman retreating to a remote Pacific island), and the group only emerged again on 1994's weighty PANDEMONIUM.

Killing Joke
Born out of the fires of England's first wave of post-punk, proto-industrial Killing Joke was always somehow apart from their contemporaries. Their music was harsher, their lyrics were angrier, and they had a penchant for heavy metal's guitar thunder. Those things never changed, and their sound never softened. Over the years, however, Killing Joke has incorporated dance and techno tropes, allowing them to vent at new and varied audiences. In 2003, the band's original lineup of Jaz Coleman, Geordie, and Youth reunited, backed by Raven and former Nirvana drummer/Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl.
