Porcupine Tree: Steven Wilson (vocals, guitar, dulcimer, piano, Mellotron, samples); Richard Barbieri (Fender Rhodes piano, Clavinet, Hammond B-3 organ, Mellotron, Fairground synthesizer, synthesizer); Colin Edwin (bass, fretless bass, saz, drum machine); Chris Maitland (drums, background vocals).
Additional personnel: The Minerva Quartet.
Recorded at Foel Studio, Llanfair Caerinon, Wales between November 1999 and January 2000.
Originally released in 2000 in the U.K., LIGHTBULB SUN found Steve Wilson and Porcupine Tree streamlining their prog rock inclinations into song structures that explored more conventional pop territory ("She Moved On" and "Where Would We Be" are cases in point). Which is not to say that the disc doesn't overflow with instrumental prowess and extended explorations, making it one of Porcupine Tree's most well-rounded albums. The 2008 reissue features a new stereo mix of the album, plus a bonus DVD-Audio disc packed with bonus features.

Porcupine Tree

Formed in 1987, London's Porcupine Tree is one of the most highly regarded progressive rock acts in the genre. Blending influences of Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Deep Purple, Rush, and Black Sabbath, the band has released over 15 albums, EPs, and live recordings over its relatively short career. Part classic rock, part psychedelic, and part metal, Porcupine Tree also possesses a wide-ranging fan base. Though never garnering a "hit" single, the band was nominated for a Grammy in 2007.
