This 1996 album marked a real turning point for singer Peter Wolf. Nearly 15 years after leaving the J. Geils Band, and over 10 since he'd charted any solo hits, he finally broke through to a new level. Freed from the restrictions of crafting high-velocity hit singles, LONG LINE is his most relaxed album to date. As he neared his 50th birthday, he found himself following in the path of the blues and R&B artists who inspired him--he got better as he got older. That's not to say Wolf doesn't deliver some stunning slices of glorious radio fare ("Goodbye [Is All I'll Send Her]" and "Break This Chain" being but two). Quietly propulsive grooves and ballads make this album a bold and bright signal that Peter Wolf is not to be ignored. Indeed, this album set the stage for his follow-up two years later, the masterful FOOL'S PARADE.
