John Zorn's Tzadik label continues its well-established tradition of releasing traditional and non-traditional treatments of Jewish music with ANCESTOR, MINDRELES, NAGILA MONSTERS, the debut CD from Klez-Edge. While this ensemble's approach to klezmer can be quick-witted and innovative, there's a great respect for tradition on display here. Piano, clarinet, drums, brass, and vocals all evoke ancient Jewish culture, with the group embracing their roots, and rarely straying into left field.
