Pop-metal band Tesla--equally at home with emotional ballads, crunchy hard rock, and catchy melodies--showed a softer side with an acoustic set on their live album STANDING ROOM ONLY. This concert document includes versions of "Little Suzi" and their biggest hit, a cover of the Five Man Electrical Band's "Signs." Tesla prove that "melody" does not equal "compromise," and even a metal band can still pack a punch unplugged.

Tesla
Like their eccentric namesake, the band Tesla has always operated slightly outside the mainstream. In an era when glam-metal ruled the airwaves and MTV, the hard-rocking Sacramento-based band stuck to their own brand of melodic hard rock, rife with probing lyrics, evocative imagery, and thoughtful, classical-based guitar riffs. After garnering impressive reviews for their 1986 debut, and scoring a top ten hit in 1990 with the progressively wandering opus "Love Song," the band also set a precedent by releasing an all-acoustic, mostly-covers live album that featured another top ten in the '70s protest anthem "Signs." The group put in a solid decade of recording and quietly dissolved in the mid '90s, but have reformed several times, releasing live and covers albums, as well as an iTunes-only studio album.
