Three years after the Pussycat Dolls unveiled their hit debut album, PCD, the former burlesque troupe returned with another round of sassy pop called DOLL DOMINATION. Although fans had been anticipating the much-hyped (and repeatedly delayed) solo outing by lead singer Nicole Scherzinger, DOMINATION fills in nicely, with the vocalist leading her statuesque sorority on a set of sensual, dance-oriented tracks. In addition to the techno-tinged single "When I Grow Up," which gives little girls everywhere the hope that they too can be a Pussycat Doll someday, the record includes the percussive "Whatcha Think About That," a mid-tempo tune that features Missy Elliott.
Tracklist
Pussycat Dolls
A popular Hollywood burlesque act, the Pussycat Dolls emerged as mainstream fixtures when they became an outlet for big-name celebrities looking to embrace their inner sex kittens. As a musical act, the Dolls scored huge hits with a familiar albeit infectious brand of dance pop helmed by top-notch producers like Timbaland and Will.I.Am. Their 2005 single, "Don't Cha," could be heard in bars, dance clubs, and malls, and emanating from cell phones and I-pods, the world over.
Snoop Dogg
Snoop Doggy Dogg ensured his place in rap history by providing the perfect vocal complement to Dr. Dre's mellow, ominous, West Coast G-funk sound. His distinctively lazy singsong and soft-spoken drawl was first heard on Dre's title cut from the DEEP COVER soundtrack in 1991. Snoop's appearances on Dre's solo album THE CHRONIC shortly thereafter propelled him to almost overnight stardom, and his albums DOGGYSTYLE and the DOGGFATHER both hit the top of the charts. Despite a much-publicized murder trial, and a falling out with Death Row Record's CEO Suge Knight, Snoop Dogg ascended to the highest echelon of rap royalty, and through shrewd marketing, brilliant collaborations, and his smooth pimp persona, he has kept his crown well into the 21st century.
Missy Elliott
Missy Elliott is a multi-faceted career woman. Not only a ground-breaking producer whose work spans the pop market (Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, TLC, Da Brat), Elliott is also a skilled MC. Her 1997 debut trademarked Elliott's cartoon-styled videos and stop-start beats (aided by partner Timbaland). Elliott also runs her own label/production company, the Gold Mind, which nurtured R&B singer Nicole into a gold-selling debut. Through the late '90s into the next millennium, Elliott continued turning out skillfully produced, sexually charged albums, winning Grammys left and right. While she remained in Timbaland's orbit, she expanded to work with other producers as well, continuing to broaden her sound.
R. Kelly
If you're looking for the perfect music to cap a romantic evening or, for that matter, get one started, slow-jam master R. Kelly might just do the trick. Whether he's turning out heart-on-sleeve love ballads (the R. Kelly-penned Michael Jackson 1995 hit "You Are Not Alone"), gorgeous spiritually oriented compositions ("I Believe I Can Fly"), down-and-dirty R&B jams (2001's "Feelin' on Yo Booty"), or multi-part ghetto-narrative "hip-hoperas" (the infamous "Trapped in the Closet" single, which as of summer 2006 had 12 chapters), Kels really does have all the bases covered.
