Not to be confused with Jay-Z's 2007 album of the same name, the AMERICAN GANGSTER soundtrack presents an eclectic array of songs from Ridley Scott's thrilling crime film, which stars Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. (The movie did inspire Jigga's record, however.) Highlights of the compilation include Anthony Hamilton's simmering soul tune "Do You Feel Me," which conjures up a vintage Motown vibe, and Public Enemy's hard-hitting "Can't Truss It," as well as new tracks by PE's sonic architect, Hank Shocklee (see the funky "Club Jam"). The epitome of what a pop/R&B/rap-oriented soundtrack should be, GANGSTER perfectly complements the film, and stands on its own as an excellent mix.
